If you’re visiting new orleans for halloween or planning a fall trip to the big easy, you don’t want to miss these authentic spooky spots, spiritual shops, and events. as a practicing witch and occultist, and new orleans resident for the past 15 years, this is my ‘must-see’ guide for visitors who want to experience something real, beyond the mainstay tourist traps.

New Orleans in Fall

Fall is one of the best times to visit New Orleans, as the weather tends to be a bit cooler (read: not 115 degrees in the shade), and the city really goes all out for spooky season. Bear in mind, though, that hurricane season lasts through the end of November and weather can still be unpredictable during Fall. It’s not unusual for it to still be warm, rainy, and humid. Pack accordingly! Additionally, Halloween weekend is very busy, and while the vibe in town truly cannot be matched (and there are a ton of fun things to see and do), if you’re someone who struggles with crowds and chaos, you might be better off planning your trip for earlier in October, or even during September.

French Quarter Spiritual, Occult, & Oddities Shops

If you’re visiting New Orleans for the first time, you’ll likely want to spend some time in the French Quarter. Fortunately there are a ton of great metaphysical and spiritual shops located downtown, especially concentrated on Lower Decatur street (an easy walk from most hotels). While there are a ton of fun shops to visit (too many to name!), there are my recommendations as a real witch who lives, works, and practices magic in New Orleans.
